Plan Of Attack for Aftercare Program

(5/14/2008)

Here are a few of the problematic road blocks facing not only our ministry but others involved in prisoner rehabilitation and return to society...

-A drastic shortage of housing for ex-offenders
-Inmates eliminate themselves from aftercare - they don't follow through
-DOC elimination - references, change of parole destinations
-Not enough mentors
-Communication links with parole departments, case managers, chaplains, etc. are fragile
-Lack of support from churches, locally, & statewide
-Very little funding available for volunteer programs

We are deeply into the process of shaping a strategic plan on what we, as a ministry, are aspiring to achieve ourselves, but need outside help to fully accomplish our vision. Below is an outline of our current approach to this ongoing, almost non-existent battle of rehabilitating ex-offenders...

I. Aftercare Program Development
A. Outreach to Churches
1. Targeted Selection Analysis- Identify the characteristics of churches most receptive to implementing Jail/Aftercare programs (mentoring, homes, etc.)
2. Determine the existing Organization/Identify Key Contacts- Identify Pastor, Benevolence, and Outreach leader contact information through the Internet, and or other resources.
3. Prepare Presentation- specifically geared toward sheriff/warden/chaplain mentality.

B. Outreach to Jail/Prison Chaplains on establishing Program/Volunteer Coordinators
1. Prepare Training/Follow-up Support- for jails/prisons that have chosen to participate on any level of aftercare support.
C. Outreach to Community Parole/Probation on establishing Program/Volunteer Coordinators
1. Seeking existing support resources that are attainable by scheduling personal/phone contacts.
D. Outreach to County Treatment Centers (Halfway House) in the Northern Colorado Region on Program/Volunteer Coordinators
1. Comprehensive seeking & coming together with all available resources
E. Internal Program Support
1. Interacting regularly with Shekinah Mentors/Volunteers, Chaplains, Sheriffs, Wardens, and Parole/Probation Departments.
F. Analyze Church Associations, Religious & Political Organizations
1. Creating network relationships
G. Aftercare Fundraising Initiative
1. Generic Fundraising

We are working hard, praying and trusting, knowing that God is faithful!
