GOD’S FIELD

By: By Cathy Sweeney (10/31/2009)

I love going to the Weld County Jail every Monday night to meet with the women. God’s faithfulness to bring His Word in due season is amazing. What a joy it is to be a surrendered servant bringing His message of love, forgiveness, mercy, grace, hope, purpose, and power. The results are nothing more than astounding. I stand in awe of God’s divine orchestration and timing. Last week, one of the women began to get a migraine and thought she may need to leave the Bible study early to lie down. I blessed her to leave whenever she felt it necessary, and asked if she would allow us to pray for her right there and then. She agreed, so the rest of us gathered around her and prayed. The prayer was nothing spectacular; simple, short, to the point, humble, reaching into Heaven to bring healing to her on earth. Afterward, when the women returned to their seats, the one with the headache exclaimed, “Wow! I actually feel much better!” and remained for the rest of the teaching. This was no small thing as it tangibly communicated how much God cares about every detail of their life. Even when we mess up and make bad choices, God still moves on our behalf. Why? Because His love for us is so great and it never changes. It solidified belief that God still had promises, blessings, and restoration in store for them and their families. They are learning that nothing is hidden from God. They are learning that Jesus loves them far too much to pacify them with what they want. Rather, His love requires provision of what they need. They are accepting that His ways are not our ways - His ways are better. It blows my mind that God would choose me to be a vehicle by which He demonstrates His goodness and kindness. Without pressing in to what God is saying and doing each week, I have nothing of life changing value to offer these women. Most people know what is wrong with them, but they are unaware of the greatness that God has placed in them. Only God can take our knowledge of Him and fill it with the substance of Him.

I Corinthians 3:5 “…Why, we’re only servants. Through us God caused you to believe. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us. My job was to plant the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God, not we, Who made it grow. The ones who do the planting or the watering are not important, but God is important because He is the One Who makes the seed grow. The one who plants and the one who waters work as a team with the same purpose.”

Thank you to all who plant and water the seed to bring the reality of Christ to those who are struggling to hold on to hope and purpose while serving time in the judicial system.
